I want to talk with you about the importance of self care.
The most important person YOU can take care of is YOURSELF. Amidst the chaos of daily life, getting back to school, kids sport schedules, parties, open houses etc, if you’re not taking care of yourself, you’re not able to be fully present in those moments.
I will tell you from personal experience that filling your own cup with your morning routine and exercise will be the thing that keeps you sane through it all. It will be the thing that helps you move forward, and your body and mind NEED it to help you thrive in life.
One thing that a lot of people put on the back burner when life gets crazy is their workout. I need to tell you that that’s gotta stop RIGHT NOW.
The best way to fit your workouts in when you don’t have time to breathe is to wake up a little early and make it happen. Your day will be better, you’ll be more patient with your kids, you’ll feel better and you won’t be as stressed. In the end, your body will THANK you.
The best way I’ve found to do this is to do home workouts and be part of a support and accountability group. If you have a gym membership or go to classes, do that! If you enjoy jogging, do that. It doesn’t matter. Just make sure that getting some exercise becomes a no matter what. I highly suggest that in addition to whatever method works for you, you find a support and accountability PARTNER. Someone who texts you early and reminds you to get it done, and doesn’t let you make excuses for yourself.
I set an alarm on my phone with the label set as some kind of affirmation. That gives me the extra boost I need to keep moving past my bed and start my day.
When you go to bed at night, set your alarm. When it goes off you say to yourself 5-4-3-2-1 and you get up and go for it. When the alarm goes off, ask yourself “What will I gain from staying awake instead of going back to bed?”. The answer to that question is A LOT! Just 1 extra hour focused on filling your cup is incredible and will change your life.
That’s what I want to leave you with. The most important thing for you to do today is just START! Start today. Don’t wait. Don’t say you’ll do it next week, month, year. Do it NOW! Make it a habit. Life is about habits, both big and small. So to get to the bigger goal of working out in the morning, stick to the SMALL habits along the way.
